Clarks really looks after its people

When you grow up in the area, everyone knows Clarks as a good, local employer. But for me, I think it was the size and scope of the organisation that really attracted me. Their global expansion and big ambitions were exciting and the fact that after 200 years, they’re still going strong and growing fast is impressive. Coming from a background of specialising in industrial relations, I was keen for a more generalist role where I could get involved with a bit of everything – Clarks has definitely ticked that box, and many more.

Clarks is unique. You just wouldn’t get the opportunities and the culture that we have here elsewhere. I’ve never known an organisation where everyone is so passionate about their brand. And nothing stands still: there are always new, exciting opportunities to explore and try different things. Although it’s is a huge organisation, it still really looks after its people. In my role, I work closely with managers across Product and everyone shares this enthusiasm for encouraging individuals to grow. I’d only been here a year when I had the chance to be seconded into Supply Chain in a Transformation role. If you apply yourself and you’re keen to progress, you can go amazing places with Clarks.

What keeps me here? Aside from the opportunities, it’s the variety and the people. I’m not just sat at my desk doing the same thing all day, every day. One day, I could be meeting designers for a recruitment campaign I’m managing and the next, talking to someone on the other side of the world. You build up really close relationships even on an international level. Somerset is a great place to bring up a young family. My lovely Lola is three and baby Harry is only eight months, he’s just crawling at the moment but as soon as he’s on his feet, he’ll be taking his first steps in some baby desert boots!
