Street colleagues buy Christmas gifts for children and young people in Somerset

This December, people from our Street HQ and Westway DC once again demonstrated their festive generosity by donating gifts to Children’s Social Care who distributed them to families they are supporting.

Sarah, MCR Operations Manager in Street, organised a similar appeal last Christmas, which also proved to be very successful. Sarah contacted the Children's Social Care team at Somerset County Council again in November to start arrangements for Christmas 2015.

A box of labels was left in Reception, with either "Boy" or "Girl" and an age range printed on it. Anybody who wished to take part in the appeal simply drew a label from the box, and then bought an appropriate gift for that child, priced at between £5 and £10. The presents were left under the Christmas tree in reception with the label attached, and were collected by Sarah and her team who sorted them by age, gender and location, before delivering them to the Council.

The number of gifts requested was actually exceeded, and by 15 December, 780 presents had been received in total. Staff from Children's Social Care hand-delivered the presents to children and families in time for Christmas.

Sarah said: "After last year's Christmas present appeal was such a success, I felt we had to try and match it this year. I knew that might be a tall order, but once again everybody rose to the challenge.  It was truly heart-warming to witness such generosity from our Head Office teams, and I feel privileged to work alongside such amazing people at Clarks!"
