A unique working culture that couldn't be replicated

Shoes are one of my true passions in life and I’ve always been a big fan of Clarks Originals, so I loved the idea of working for a company that creates products I enjoy wearing. Clarks has a rich history in the industry and that was one of the main things that attracted me initially. What’s kept me here three years? The fact I’m learning new things every day and the amazing friendships I’ve created, they’re reasons I look forward to coming into work. As Product Development Manager for Men’s and Women’s Originals, each season, I work closely with other international teams to develop new shoes in stylish colours. I get involved in a bit of everything – from coordinating prototypes to presenting shoes at meetings. It’s really varied. Building our brand in America has been an integral part of my role and an exciting challenge!

There’s an amazing culture in our Boston office, it’s fun, welcoming and encouraging, as people genuinely want their colleagues to succeed. You’re free to express yourself and voice your opinions, knowing that your input will be valued. And there are so many opportunities to pursue your career goals and learn new skills. Clarks University has a number of courses in all areas of the business. Not only have I learned so much about product development, but I’ve also studied leather with the Director of Materials, spent a day in one of our retail stores and even taken a week-long course with ARS Sutoria, one of the world’s most prestigious schools of shoemaking, where I experienced every detail of the process from start to finish. It’s been enriching to learn about all of the different business areas and to understand how they all intertwine.

One of the most memorable times for me was the SS13 Platform show, which was a demonstration of everything we’d done for the season. Seeing all the shoes we’d worked hard on displayed for customers was a proud moment. And if I had to pick a stand-out favourite thing about Clarks, it’d be the culture. Without sounding like a broken record, the people make it such a special place to work. There are a number of footwear organisations here in Boston, but I honestly don’t think the culture we have here could be replicated anywhere else.
