From family bike rides to global technology projects

I’d never worked in ecommerce before coming to Clarks, my background has been with big technology organisations. And I’ve always felt working in big companies suits me well as there tends to be more opportunities to step up and stay! That’s one of the things that attracted me to Clarks: their impressive size and global success story.

My job role is Senior Analyst which basically involves working on ecommerce platforms and leading on the technical side of how we sell shoes online using Microsoft development technologies. I look at new features for the website and review current solutions. I also coach junior team members. It’s interesting as I work with people across the whole business – senior stakeholders will come to me with ideas and say ‘this is what we want to do’ or ‘this is what the customer feedback is’ and I’ll look into viable solutions. Busy but very interesting!

The expanse of global work that we do here is phenomenal and it’s great to see things evolve. Street might be a quaint place but there’s an incredible amount of innovation going on here, all in quite a relaxed, creative environment with very good people. We’ve just launched a platform to be able to sell shoes on Amazon which I’m very proud of.

I live in Wells which is great for me and also my wife as she works in Yeovil. At first, I was dubious about not living in a big city but the beauty of Wells is that you get the best of both worlds – there are cinemas and gyms and all those things but also amazing places to go for bike rides, walks and lovely little country pubs. With a second child, it’s the perfect place to bring up a young family and a truly fantastic place to be.
