Writing a great job application

First impressions last. Which is especially true when it comes to writing your job application. To give you a helping hand, we’ve put together a few top tips.

Follow the instructions. Be professional and methodical with your application. Take your time. Send it back to us in good time too, in the format we asked for. And while it sounds obvious, make sure you’re sending the right details to the right person.

Take care over the details. You’d be amazed at how many people forget to include their email address, or give us an incorrect phone number. Check and check again is our advice.

Do your research. Make sure you give the job description and supporting information a good read. That way you’ll understand exactly what we’re looking for and you’ll be able to tailor your application and CV accordingly.

Make it clear and relevant. Make sure your CV or application looks good on the page. Check spelling. Pick out key bits of information in bold type maybe. Think about what we need to know about your ability to do the job. Highlight your most relevant skills, experience, personal qualities. Pick out achievements too. We love people who can show us what they’ve done and how it’s made a difference. Also, think about the length of your CV or application - we don’t need pages and pages.

Take your time. We want to hear from people who really want the job. And, believe us, it shows when people do. So take the time, effort and attention to do a great job on your application. It’ll make a difference.
