Clarks shoes have been defining high street fashion for almost 200 years. Just because our brand has an amazing history, though, that doesn’t mean we’re not looking to the future. We’re moving forward as a business more in-touch—with markets, customers and, equally, with our own finances. That’s why we’re now looking for a new Indirect Tax Manager—an expert who will take the lead in an area that, at a global organisation like ours, accounts form a significant amount of revenue.
You’ll play a key role in our tax strategy by managing indirect taxation affairs for the entire Clarks Group. You’ll play an important part in the corporate decision-making process—it’ll be on you to examine plans, identify how indirect taxation affects them and make sure that your concerns are considered and resolved wherever the business moves forward.
You’ll keep a watchful eye on the taxation landscape, staying right up-to-date with the latest legislation changes and industry developments. Working closely with our Tax Analysts and in consultation with third party tax advisors, you’ll make sure that any issues that may arise from such changes are dealt with in the most advantageous possible way for the business
You’ll be responsible for ensuring that the Group’s VAT and associated returns are accurate and filed on time. Clarks’ indirect presence is predominately in the UK and across Europe, but also key markets in Asia and Canada. You’ll work with the Tax Analyst, third-party advisors and local Clarks teams across the Globe,
As you do all this, you’ll make a big contribution to the culture of continuous improvement within the Finance department. Reviewing the SAO compliance process for VAT. Looking for ways to make cash flow reporting processes more insightful and accurate. That’s how you’ll make us a more efficient business. Indirect Tax might be your focus but you’ll have a direct effect on the fortunes of our business.
A bit about you
You’ll need to be a qualified accountant—ideally tax qualified, too—with good knowledge of tax regulations and some industry experience. But just as important is your attitude. We’re positive and proactive in our approach here, and you’ll bring that to everything you do, from communication with colleagues to industry research and problem-solving. That’s how managers like you drive our culture of continuous improvement.
As the sole manager in charge of indirect tax, you’ll be shouldering some serious responsibility. You’ll collaborate with colleagues in finance but, for the most part, you’ll be working autonomously. That means being self-motivated and prioritising your own workload so that your time is always spent doing what matters most. That organisational ability is a stand-out quality of yours—and it’s one of the reasons why you’re able to wield real influence within the corporate structure. The results that come from that influence will see your career go from strength to strength.
Clarks, based in Somerset, England, has been at the forefront of innovative shoemaking since its foundation in 1825, when brothers James and Cyrus Clark made a slipper from sheepskin off-cuts. At the time it was ground-breaking; a combination of invention and craftsmanship that’s remained at the heart of what the brand does now.
In the Clarks archive of more than 22,000 pairs are shoes that have sparked revolutions and defined generations. From the original Clarks Desert Boot (first designed by Nathan Clark and launched in 1950) to the iconic Wallabee, each design has an instantly recognisable signature – a unique combination of craftsmanship and innovation that make it unmistakably Clarks.
Clarks is a global business operating retail, wholesale, franchise and online channels in over 100 markets worldwide supported by nearly 10,000 employees across the world.
