As a global organisation like Clarks, Sustainability, Compliance and Health & Safety are big business. That’s what makes this role so important. Not only because compliance infringements are costly but because we want Clarks to represent the highest standards of business practice around the world. And that’s where you come in. Using your expertise, you’ll develop and implement a Compliance Strategy that minimises risk across the organisation whilst being as cost efficient – sustainable – as possible. It’s a serious role that will have you looking into national and international laws as you maintain business-critical legal and contractual documentation. And, as the owner of the agenda for Sustainability and Working Conditions, you’ll be a primary contact for customers and suppliers on these issues, using that position – and your inspirational nature – to leverage a culture in which Health & Safety and Compliance are primary concerns.
You’ll promote that culture by being on top of your game in everything you do. Primarily by being an active collaborator across all business functions and a vocal and visible representative of your department within high profile multi-stakeholder groups, which may include government officials, NGOs or third part auditors. It’s about constantly evaluating and always being aware of how market developments or changes in law could affect our organisation. You’ll draw on this knowledge when giving the kind of direction to your Health & Safety team, that means we can always respond to Health & Safety issues quickly and in a cost-effective way. Ensuring our organisation as safe and as productive as possible. If you’re looking to take your career onto the global stage with a world class company – and get the rewards to match – this is your chance.
A bit about you
First and foremost, this role is about knowing how business works. You may have learned about that when you studied for your degree. What’s certain if your qualifications – ICA Diploma in Governance, Risk & Compliance and NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health. In addition to that, you’ll need the kind of knowhow that comes from experience. Of managing teams in remote locations. Of delivering working condition audits and of collaborating with suppliers to develop and implement improvement plans. WRAP, SEDEX, BSCI – it’s all in hand. It’s what you do. Sustainability and Corporate Compliance is a specialist area – but it’s one you’ve come to know well. You might even have lead Heath & Safety strategy before. And all the better if you gained that experience within the footwear sector.
Your experience and knowledge instil you with an infectious confidence. It inspires others. Your teams feel confident when they look to you for leaderships. Senior stakeholders buy into your ideas. Because you’re organised. Always maintaining best practices and looking for ways to improve. And when you find a new way to make us better, you’ll speak up. Your communications – written or verbal – are clear and concise and make the benefits of your proposals plain to see. That’s why your processes and policies are implemented smoothly and can exceed deadlines and expectations. When your report lands on someone’s desk, you know it’ll be read – because you have integrity. From our customers to our employees and third parties – that’s what people expect from Clarks. You’ll embody it in everything you do here.
Clarks, based in Somerset, England, has been at the forefront of innovative shoemaking since its foundation in 1825, when brothers James and Cyrus Clark made a slipper from sheepskin off-cuts. At the time it was ground-breaking; a combination of invention and craftsmanship that’s remained at the heart of what the brand does now.
In the Clarks archive of more than 22,000 pairs are shoes that have sparked revolutions and defined generations. From the original Clarks Desert Boot, first designed by Nathan Clark and launched in 1950 to the iconic Wallabee, each design has an instantly recognisable signature – a unique combination of craftsmanship and innovation that make it unmistakably Clarks.
Clarks is a global business operating retail, wholesale, franchise and online channels in over 100 markets worldwide supported by nearly 10,000 employees across the world.
We’ve already told you about the degree of flexibility you’ll enjoy as a valued addition to our business – but that’s just the start. As well as development opportunities, pension and a competitive salary, you’ll also enjoy a variety of other benefits. These range from 25 days’ holiday (plus bank holidays) to discounted healthcare. And, as everyone loves new shoes, you’ll also get a very healthy discount on our products.
